  1. Imatroll says:

    soooo why’s this on here?

  2. Man says:

“This is what used to separate The Simpsons from shows like Family Guy or South Park.”

    Fixed

  3. forkforkforkfork says:

    Shut up, Meg!

  4. Johnny Two Toes says:

This is why I like the Simpsons. They have a good moral message at the end of (almost) every show. At least they did.

  5. Satirica says:

Bob’s Burgers is more family-oiented, too. The Cleveland Show is just nasty.

  6. Chris says:

It is this and many other reasons that elevates The Simpsons above those other shows. Another reason: despite all of his shenanigans and blunders, we all know Homer would never cheat on Marge. No way, no how.

  7. Jimbo says:

No, what separates The Simpsons from Family Guy and South Park is that the latter shows are actually funny.

    • artbargra says:

You’re absolutely right. Especially the 4th season.

Another thing that separates The Simpsons (and Futurama) from other shows, is that there are very heart-warming episodes, like this one, or Jurassik Bark.

Dammit, I almost cried with that one!

      • truedat says:

Jurassik Bark is actually probably the only tv show that has ever made me feel that sad.

      • Kurt says:

Jurrasik Bark was one of the best episodes of any tv show ever. And yeah, if you didn’t get a little choked up at the end of that one then you clearly have no soul. At least they kind of made up for it in Bender’s Big Score

        • Sean says:

All of you need to learn to spell Jurassic. 8|

          • Morris says:

Dunno if you’re trolling or just really dumb…

            • Retro says:

Don’t forget the Futurama episode “Luck of the Fryish” when Fry is out to get postumous revenge on his brother (who Fry thinks he stole his lucky 7-leaf clover as well as his identity), he discovers the other Phillip J. Fry is his nephew.

      • sdj says:

I still get teary eyed just thinking about that episode!

  8. armthehomeless says:

Yeah though this is what separates The Simpsons from Family Guy etc, and, though Family Guy is quite bad now, this is why I don’t like the Simpsons too much.
Sure this episode was very good, but I really don’t want morals or a happy ending when I’m watching a cartoon. I find that kind of lame, and I really don’t like Marge or Lisa episodes.

    • waggle237 says:

I agree, i think thats been the downfall of the new episodes, they cram lisa into every one, SHE AINT FUNNY! at least marge comes up with a line or two! that was the beauty of the old ones, lets let homer and occasionally bart get into shinanigans! not lets hear lisa preach about whatever for a half hour

  9. JM says:

Your statement may be true, but this episode was released 17 years ago. It’s hard to say the same about the Simpsons in the last 9 years being reasonably different than Family Guy or South Park (maybe not as crude).
The show has gone into the tank in my opinion. Give me any episode from 1990-1997 against one from the last 9 years and there is no comparison.

    • M. says:

Despite the fact this is an old one The Simpsons has at least had instances of heart warming episodes, like this one, whereas I can’t think of a single Family Guy or South Park episode that’s nice like this.
But you’re right, The Simpsons isn’t how it used to be. Maybe they should make Futurama the dominant series.

      • PuMpKiN says:

        This.
Simpsons is too far gone. They can cater to masses, dragging in viewers at the expense of their souls, or they can give the episodes a real sitcom family vibe.
The amount of genuinely amusing episodes from the past… 8, 9 seasons is so small that I can count them on my fingers.
They used to have these plots that while outlandish, weren’t ridiculous. Just somewhere inbetween.

      • superstar says:

One South Park Thanksgiving ep about the boy from Africa who was shipped, and then his village got the crazy turkeys. It was a good ep.

  10. Dreegle says:

This is awesome! My wife grew up not being allowed to watch the simpsons, but I talked her into watching just one with me. I picked this one and she actually cried, she loves the Simpsons now. True Story

  11. brodysseous says:

yeah… like 15 years ago. simpsons hasn’t meen funny for over a decade. if you were gonna do it right i second jurassic bark

  12. jesusTheWhale says:

cuuute. but i still think simpsons is funny. it may not be exactly like it used to be, but i’m not gonna b.itch about it.

  13. spiderpig says:

    its my favorite episode :)

  14. mama says:

does anyone know the episode title? seriously thinking of printing the pic to put up at my register at work. would make the idiots totally worth while.

  15. HDW says:

I’m not ashamed to admit that this episode made me tear up a little.

  16. Justice says:

I loved this episode. Now they rewrite history by turning characters into lesbians (Selma) and blatantly shove leftist doctrine and unfunny physical gags (Ned chasing Homer on a horse, and the horse doing stupid acrobatics).

They should have ended the series on a touching note at least 10 years ago.

  17. Enorches says:

It’s _wrong_ to compare The Simpsons with South Park and Family Guy. Simpsons have more tame humour (and the time they make a really dirty jokes they shock me more than make me laugh) and its satire is more clean and older. South Park attacks everything and sometimes it attacks its own viewers with its humour. And the humour is black and dirty humour, unlike the Simpsons-humour. Family guy is more like the middle of those two. Too dirty for kids (unlike the Simpsons) but more cleaner than South Park.

  18. Burma Jones says:

At some point Stewie went from mad scientist to just gay.

    • waggle237 says:

agreed, stewie just became a flamboyant gay and they turned brian into an uber leftist doosh

  19. Just sayin' says:

The Simpsons might not be any good these days, but it paved the way for South Park, Family Guy, and whatever other trash people think is hilarious these days. Futurama is my favorite.

  20. Z says:

I think the original post should say ‘used to seperate’ the simpsons hasn’t even been mildly entertaining in years. This episode was what? Over 10 years ago surely. The simpsons has been sucking since before Family guy was around.

  21. 5ent1m3nta1 says:

    awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww…………………………………………………………..

  22. Bernard McSmeg says:

Yes, this is what makes South Park and SMcF’s universe infinitely more watchable than The Simpsons.

  23. reliquarian says:

That’s just bad parenting, showing favoritism. Where are Bart and Lisa?

    • `\/' says:

You haven’t watched the episode in question, have you? Homer had to take this job because of Maggie, his old one (at the bowling place) only earning him enough money for two children.

  24. notapunk says:

I kind of resent the grouping of Family Guy and South Park together. At least SP has some thought behind it and not the mindless drivel that they pass for comedy on FG.

    • Kitty says:

Agreed! South Park often goes for current events and rips holes in them, proving how petty they are. Plus it’s bloody funny XD
      …I love Kyle.

  25. Pyrobunneh says:

That is just beautiful. That picture makes me think of my father and the things he did and sacrificed for me.

  26. Rabbitfish says:

In Family Guy and South Park, they talk too fast for any of it to be funny. And they rely on the type of humour that is mostly only laughed at by Americans. The Simpsons has a sense of humour that can be found funny by Americans AND the rest of the world. A lot of American humour seems to only rely on stretching the bounds of comedy, in the desperate search for new types of jokes to make. This is pointless – most British comics can make jokes that have no chance of being viewed as offensive.

When the Simpsons make double entendres, they are subtle, whereas Family Guy and South Park rarely make double entendres; they are blunt about what they are saying. The Simpsons have also got loads of new writers as well, who grew up watching it, so they don’t repeat themselves. If the Simpsons kept the same format for each program, it wouldn’t be as good a program as it is and would have given up.

The only reason people complain is because it has changed, but not necessarily for any bad reason.

  27. Rabbitfish says:

    Too long didn’t read.

    My own comment.

  28. Jeremy says:

“This is what separates The Simpsons from shows like Family Guy or South Park.”

That, and the fact that Family Guy and South Park are funny…

  29. whatabout says:

    what about Lisa’s substitute?

“Is it OK if i run along side the train while it speeds you from my life?”

That, when homer’s mum left for the first time and bleeding gums dying…cant wathc the end of those episodes in company anymore

  30. ^3^ says:

    That’s so cute :D

  31. THE RESISTANCE says:

    GOOD BY CRUEL WORLD!

  32. der Cili says:

    Ohhhhhhh, so sweet!
